ACCOUNTING CLERK TRAINEE 1225 (REVISED 07-05-24) ID-2979

DUTIES
 Accounting Clerk Trainees receive intensive on the-job instruction and training, and experience as a trainee under close supervision performing a variety of clerical accounting work of average complexity, or routine and repetitive clerical accounting duties on a continuous basis; and receive evaluations periodically as the training progresses to ensure performance milestones are met and critical competencies are assessed. These are intended to develop the skills, knowledge, and abilities necessary to qualify for transition to the Accounting Clerk Assistant class.

 NOTES:

 Employees employed as Accounting Clerk Trainees are appointed to positions which are designated as temporary training positions in accordance with Section 5.30 of the Rules of the Board of Civil Service Commissioners. Employment as Accounting Clerk Trainees is limited to 18 months on-the-job training, including 12 months of full time paid clerical accounting work. Upon successful completion of the on-the-job training program and receipt of a letter of recommendation from an employing City department, incumbents will receive a regular appointment to Accounting Clerk Assistant and begin a six-month probationary period. New appointees who do not successfully complete the temporary training period will be terminated from the class.

The Accounting Clerk Trainee class will be utilized for the duration of the Bridge-to-Jobs Program solely as a pathway for Bridge-to-Jobs Program participants to eventually transition to full-time regular appointment as an Accounting Clerk.

REQUIREMENT(S)/MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S)

  • Current placement in the Bridge-to-Jobs candidate pool with the City of Los Angeles; and
  • A Letter of Recommendation from the personnel office of the employing City department, which includes a statement on the department’s willingness to hire the employee as an Accounting Clerk Trainee. The letter must be attached to the application at the time of filing. 

PROCESS NOTE

Appointments to the class of Accounting Clerk Trainee, Class Code 1225, will be made to temporary training positions in accordance with Section 5.30 of the Rules of the Board of Civil Service Commissioners for a maximum duration of five years. New appointees who do not successfully complete the temporary training period will be terminated from the class.

 The examination will consist entirely of review of candidates' City employment application by Personnel Department staff to ensure that minimum requirements are met. Since these reviews will be made solely on the basis of the written information contained on the candidate's City employment application, it is each candidate's responsibility to ensure that the application is complete with accurate descriptions of relevant experience.

Individuals appointed to the class of Accounting Clerk Trainee will receive on-the-job training to assist them with developing the critical competencies required for successful performance in the targeted, regular civil service classification of Accounting Clerk.
