Job Summary



Job Summary: Job incumbent may initially have limited knowledge and skills for working with clients, but will begin to develop a broad information and practice base. Incumbent will require regular clinical supervision to support their work.

Adhere to the TCC Ch’eghwtsen’ model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.


Essential Functions

Representative Duties:
Under the direct supervision of the on-site Village Tribal Administrator and Behavioral Health Aide Program Manager the job incumbent will:

1. Secure BHA I certification within 18 months of hire, by completing required trainings and supervised practicum, and mastering skills on the BHA Knowledge and Skills Checklist at the BHA I level.

2. Provide screening, referral and case management services to clients with behavioral health issues and assist clients to enter treatment or access services with assistance from other members of the treatment team.

3. Serve walk-in clients region-wide and carry a small caseload of early intervention clients.

4. Keep the client and others as appropriate informed of treatment progress.

5. Provide crisis and informal supportive counseling services to children and adults with assistance from other members of the treatment team.

6. Make home visits to elders and other community members in need; conduct outreach in community settings.

7. Coordinate and actively participate in community education and prevention activities, including wellness teams and presentations on behavioral health issues to community members.

8. Facilitate culturally relevant community activities such as talking circles; language and culture workshops, culture camps, and subsistence activities.

9. Will be required to work on-call for behavioral health emergencies within the home village and will be included in community-level crisis response rotation to respond periodically to crises in other villages.

10. Meet productivity standards as set by the Behavioral Health Director.

11. Maintain client charts in a timely and professional manner; ensures compliance with Medicaid and other applicable regulations to document diagnosis, assessment, intervention, referral, consultation and related functions.

12. May be required to work in alternate locations (another village, OMFRC, Paul Williams House, etc.)

13. Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to the Behavioral Health Aide code of ethics in accordance to field standards, department policies and applicable laws.

14. Must be an effective communicator written and verbal.

Other Responsibilities:

1. Provide regular reports and statistics as required.

2. Summarize and document treatment progress and results in accordance with policy and procedure and to the level of Medicaid billing requirements.

3. Maintain strict confidentiality and professional ethics.4. Perform other job related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications



Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or GED equivalent.

2. Must be able to pass the TABE (Test for Adult Basic Education) at an 8th grade level.

3. Training or experience in human development, social services, counseling or related field preferred.

4. Must be willing and able to obtain BHA I certification within 18 months of hire.

5. Knowledge and ability to adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability act (HIPAA) and 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality regulations.

6. Must be able to serve as a community role model for health, wellness, and sobriety.

7. Good verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

8. Knowledge of sub-regional lifestyles and traditions preferred.

9. Ability to cultivate respectful and collaborative working relationships with individuals in the community.

10. Must pass background check pursuant to Alaska DHSS and federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.

Supervision:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands: Frequent village travel required. May be exposed to conditions that include but are not limited to travel by automobile and small aircraft, lack of running water, poor heat, sleeping on floors and adverse weather conditions. Job incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds of equipment and supplies. Must be able to work efficiently and effectively in a busy and sometimes stressful environment.
