CITY OF BUFFALO LAKE

POSITION TITLE: COOK – PART TIME

DEPARTMENT: MUNICIPAL LIQUOR STORE

ACCOUNTABLE TO: LIQUOR STORE MANAGER

FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

PURPOSE:

The Cook is responsible for preparation and service of food to patrons. Cook reports to the Liquor Store Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

This position exercises no supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Customer service includes greeting customers upon entry, waiting on customers, and recommending and selling merchandise to customers.
  • Ring up retail sales, receive payments and give change.
  • Stock, arrange and rotate food merchandise.
  • Perform general cleaning maintenance in the store, including but not limited to dusting shelves, displays, etc.; vacuuming and sweeping floors; removing snow from walkways; removing trash from store; cleaning store and cooler windows; washing shelves and bottles and cleaning restrooms.
  • May occasionally open and close the store and operate alarm system.
  • Loss prevention responsibilities.
  • Perform all other related duties and responsibilities as apparent or as assigned.

COMMON PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

  • Ability to promote and market products and answer customer questions regarding products
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, and some holidays
  • Ability to proactively greet customers, be friendly, professional, polite and helpful in dealing with customers and employees
  • Ability to prepare a variety of meals
  • Knowledge and ability with basic computer operations
  • Ability to read and speak fluently in English

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED;
  • Previous experience as a cook
  • Mathematical aptitude for inventory and billing calculation purposes.
  • Ability to deal with the public in an informed and pleasant manner.
  • Ability to express oneself, clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing with tact, diplomacy, and good judgment.
  • Ability to work by independently without supervision.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

The physical demands are those encountered while performing the listed essential functions. While performing the duties associated with the job, employee will be required to stand or sit; walk, use hands to fingers, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to work in a cooler; stoop or crouch with frequent bending, twisting and standing for long periods of time. Must be able to speak and hear. Physical strength may be needed to lift/carry/move up to approximately 30 - 75 pound cases of merchandise frequently, stock shelves/coolers and assist customers with carry out.

HAZARD EXPOSURE:

Ability to work with hands frequently in water and water with sanitizer and/or cleaning products.
