Position Summary:

The Customer Service Representative reports directly to the Store Manager and is responsible for the safe and profitable operation of a retail facility. The incumbent will provide exceptional customer service, while accurately transacting sales of fuel and merchandise, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment for all.

This position requires basic proficiency in math, making change, operating a cash register, checking till at the end of shift, maintaining required inventory levels, using Microsoft Office suite and excellent customer service skills that serve to promote the business

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides exceptional customer service, representing Vitus in a positive manner including but not limited to, a pleasant greeting, smiling, making eye contact, soliciting additional sales, processing the transaction accurately, thanking the customer and inviting them to return
  • Responsible for all retail sales, selling tobacco in accordance with federal, state, local and company rules and regulations
  • Open/Close store as needed
  • Handles cash and operates a computer based cash register
  • Balances cash register at the end of shift
  • Secures all funds in safe or register
  • Makes timely drops and maintains cash drawer at or below maximum level, in accordance with Company policies, guidelines and procedures
  • Performs daily station cleaning while maintaining a safe work environment
  • Complies with company standards on carding customers for all age restricted products
  • Prepares food & drinks, cleans, stocks and maintains food prep area in compliance with health codes
  • Maintains inventory, restocks shelves, refills dispensing machines
  • Ensures security of store items to aid in loss prevention
  • Takes reasonable precautions and measure to protect company assets
  • Ensures cleanliness of store is maintained
  • Ensures all packaged goods are clean and merchandised properly
  • Ensures cash is properly reconciled and closing report is executed on closing shifts
  • Courteous, professional contact with co-workers, customers, vendors and community at large
  • Neat appearance and good personal hygiene in compliance with company image standards
  • Preserves the safety of self, fellow employees and all others in the work location
  • Conducts all transactions and register duties accurately, quickly and in accordance with Company guidelines and procedures
  • Performs daily station responsibilities, including cleaning duties inside and outside, prepares quality food products, and stocks merchandise
  • Interacts and communicates effectively and productively with others
  • Provides regular and predictable attendance
  • Supports Store Manager as directed
  • Observes and complies with all company safety policies and procedures

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 19 years of age to sell tobacco products
  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • Cash handling and customer service experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of retail operations
  • Knowledge of merchandising procedures
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and written
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure
  • Ability to deal with a variety of variables in situations where limited standardization exists

Education:

  • High school diploma, or equivalent

(1 year of directly related work experience may qualify to substitute 1 year of education to meet the education requirement)

Required Training & Certificates:

  • Training for Alcohol Processionals (TAP)
  • Food Handlers Card / Food Workers Card
  • Attends training sessions, seminars and appropriate educational classes required by department.
  • Computer skills commensurate with program and job applications.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quite to moderate and may be loud on occasion. Work is usually done in a convenience store setting and sometimes out-of-doors, sometimes in extreme weather conditions, requiring the use of personal protective equipment to include, but not limited to; a reflective vest, steel toed boots, safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles and equipment. Work may require weekend and/or evening work.
