This role oversees clinical practice, departmental operations, staffing, and education while fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration. The Director ensures compliance with regulatory standards, drives quality improvement initiatives, and supports the professional development of team members to achieve organizational goals.<br><br><strong>Essential Functions<br><br></strong><ul><li>Provides leadership and oversight of clinical care, operations, staff education, and professional development within the Emergency Department.</li><li>Develops and implements departmental policies, standards, and workflows to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and evidence-based patient care.</li><li>Monitors departmental performance metrics, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency.</li><li>Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as accreditation standards related to emergency services.</li><li>Directly manages and supports the Nurse Manager for Professional Development and supervises clinical staff, fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and teamwork.</li><li>Partners with interdisciplinary leaders to achieve exceptional patient experience, safety, and quality outcomes through evidence-based practices, clinical research, and innovation.</li><li>Conducts workforce assessments, monitors labor productivity, and ensures appropriate staffing levels and skill mix for optimal care delivery.</li><li>Recruits, develops, and retains a diverse team of clinical and operational leaders, focusing on succession planning and staff engagement.</li><li>Oversees clinical education, orientation, and competency assessments, ensuring staff readiness to meet current and future care demands.</li><li>Encourages and implements best practices for patient experience, utilizing measurement tools such as Press Ganey and CAHPS to guide improvements.</li><li>Coordinates hospital-wide patient and staff placement activities, leveraging acuity and productivity systems to optimize resource allocation.</li><li>Accountable for the development and sustainability of nationally standardized clinical care programs and accreditations.</li><li>Engages in capacity planning and collaborates with other departments to meet fluctuating patient volume demands effectively.</li><li>Assesses current staff skill sets with clinical supervisors, identifying gaps and developing plans for future growth and training.</li><li>Responds promptly to patient care concerns and incidents, conducting investigations and implementing corrective actions as necessary.</li><li>Maintains up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, clinical advancements, and regulatory changes, ensuring the department remains compliant and competitive.</li><li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li><li>Complies with all policies and standards.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li>Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related healthcare field required</li><li>Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related healthcare field preferred</li><li>3-6 years of clinical experience in the Emergency Department required</li><li>1-2 years of progressive leadership experience in emergency services or acute care required<br><br></li></ul><strong>Knowledge, Skills And Abilities<br><br></strong><ul><li>Advanced knowledge of emergency department operations, clinical workflows, and patient care delivery models.</li><li>Strong leadership and team-building skills to inspire staff and drive departmental success.</li><li>Proficiency in quality improvement methodologies and performance metric analysis.</li><li>Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, staff, and external stakeholders.</li><li>Financial acumen in managing budgets, staffing plans, and resource allocation.</li><li>Ability to implement evidence-based practices and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.</li><li>Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards applicable to emergency care services.</li><li>Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address operational and patient care challenges effectively.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Licenses and Certifications<br><br></strong><ul><li>RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required</li><li>BCLS - Basic Life Support required</li><li>ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support required</li><li>CEN - Certified Emergency Room Nurse preferred</li><li>TNCC - Trauma Nursing Core Course preferred</li><li>ENPC - Emergency Nursing Pediatric Certification preferred</li></ul>
