RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for performing a wide variety of accounting duties, including preparation of financial statements, complete monthly closing, analyze account to ensure accuracy. Provide assistance to the accounting staff and Senior Director – Accounting as needed.

DUTIES: Items that are in bold type are considered essential job functions in compliance with ADA.

  • Record journal entries including accruals, deferrals, reclassifications, and correcting entries
  • Complete the monthly Virginia sales tax filing
  • Record and post bi-weekly payroll to capture labor costs accurately.
  • Records all revenue related to the Ecommerce business from marketplace sources including ShopGoodwill, Ebay, Amazon and GoodwillBooks.
  • Reconciles and import daily all store related sales into the Business Accounting Software
  • Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts, research and correct any discrepancies
  • Assist in month-end process and reporting
  • Make remote deposits and record cash receipts and transfers
  • Prepare Mission and WIOA grant related customer invoices and ensure accurate billing practices
  • Assists in maintaining accuracy in accounting/finance procedures and assures internal system integrity.
  • Promptly respond to ad hoc reporting and /or analysis requests from members of management team. Assist in preparing various external reporting to outside stakeholders including the monthly Goodwill Industries International (GII) Finance Report.
  • Follows and enforces accounting and financial operating procedures under policies and/or guidelines, assuring use of approved accounting procedures.
  • Audit support, provide documentation and requested schedules by Director of Accounting
  • Work with business units to document processes and identify internal control weaknesses
  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent and 5+ years of related experience
  • Strong technical accounting skills; commitment to accuracy
  • Strong knowledge of general accounting practices with ability to make appropriate and accurate accounting decisions.

Physical Demands:

  • Mobility: Must be able to sit for extended periods while working at a desk or computer.
  • Lifting Requirements: May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds, typically for transporting files, documents, or office supplies.
  • Posture & Movements: Frequent use of computer and office equipment may require occasional bending, reaching, standing and walking.
  • Manual Dexterity: Regular use of hands and fingers for typing, handling documents, and operating office equipment.
  • Travel: Occasional travel may be required to attend training sessions, meetings and professional development as needed.
  • Vision Requirements: Must be able to read and interpret financial documents, reports, and spreadsheets and utilize computer monitors and accounting software with appropriate screen resolution.
  • Communication: Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are essential for collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. Must also be able to deliver presentations, conduct and engage in meetings in person and virtually.

  • This is a remote position, with occasional in-office hours and travel required to attend training sessions, audits, meetings, and professional development opportunities as needed.
