Perform various residential upgrade and maintenance tasks on qualified houses under general supervision.<br> The following duties <strong>ARE NOT </strong>intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.<br><br>Remove, install, maintain and replace various residential building materials-including doors, windows, insulation, flooring, skirting, plumbing, vents, caulking, roofing, etc.-as directed by Housing Project Superintendent.<br><br>Read, interpret and follow directions as written in a project work order.<br><br>Assist senior Housing Project Specialists and Superintendent with home assessments and inspections as needed.<br><br>Become familiar with all policies, procedures and technical standards adopted by NSB Housing Department.<br><br>Report to Housing Project Superintendent for work on time and follow all instructions and guidance.<br><br>Keep daily project time diaries.<br><br>Load and unload material from barges, aircraft, trucks, and container vans as required.<br><br>Promote and maintain a culture of workplace safety and orderliness through adherence to relevant policies and rules. Perform other duties as assigned.<br><br>Attend required classroom training, including online or self-study modules, through Ilisagvik College, and maintain an updated record of on-the-job learning hours under guidance of Superintendent (Registered Apprenticeship only).<div>Awareness of basic construction practices in cold climates.<br><br>Ability to work in confined spaces, such as attics, and in environments that may be cold, hot, dirty, dusty, etc.<br><br>Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.<br><br>Ability to travel to North Slope villages for extended periods of time.<br><br>Ability to work in cross-cultural environments and relate to low-income, disabled and elderly clients.<br><br>Ability to prioritize tasks in an efficient manner.</div><br>Ability to understand and follow directions.<br><br>Ability to learn new tasks.<br><br>Knowledge of North Slope Borough policies and procedures.<br><br>Knowledge and demonstrated safe use of all necessary tools.High School graduate or GED, or a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.<br><br>Six months of general construction, labor, remodeling, weatherization or maintenance work experience.<br><br>Must obtain clearance to wear a respirator within six months of employment.<br><br>Must own or purchase basic tools listed on career ladder within six months of employment.<br><br>Valid Alaska Driver's License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria. (Must be able to obtain prior to promotion to Housing Project Specialist II.)<br><br>Ability to obtain clearance to wear a respirator within six months of employment.<br><br>Ability to obtain OSHA 10 Hour certification within six months of employment.<br><br><strong>This is a career ladder position.
