Department Overview

McDonald’s, one of the most recognized brands in the world, is seeking a skilled Software Development Engineer to lead the development of our in-store technology as part of Commercial Product & Platform organization. The Commercial Product & Platform vision develops global technology products and platforms that delight our customers and enable our crews to operate our restaurants reliably and effectively.

The Software Engineer II role works with the Sr Engineering Manager, Chapter Lead. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, testing and maintenance of the McDonald’s restaurant software. Restaurant Technology software includes application user interface, API layer software, data management, and data communication with external systems. The software needs to meet stringent reliability and performance requirements as well as the needs of our customers.

The biggest area of increase in our spending has been in technology, which is helping to drive our growth. We’re looking at how to use technology to improve the customer experience and build new customer experiences. We’re also exploring technologies that can help us reduce or eliminate repetitive tasks and make employees’ jobs more exciting and rewarding. With all the new projects and initiatives, it is an exciting time to be on the team that is helping to make a Better McDonald's!

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Develop marketing automation workflows focused on marketing communications & experience personalization such as push notifications, emails, and mobile app personalized experiences
  • Conceptualize customer segmentation to support Marketing Automation based on knowledge of pre-existing data structures
  • Translate business requests for marketing capabilities, into clear technical requirements that include data properties needed for implementing marketing automations
  • Technical requirement solicitation and documentation skills to effectively capture and communicate marketing automation solutions/initiatives to key collaborators
  • Ensure that all technical work aligns with the business objectives and marketing strategies
  • Triage issues and defects - capturing, prioritizing and remediating for marketing automations

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or similar engineering field or equivalent years of experience.
  • Minimum 1+ years of non-internship professional marketing automation experience with a marketing or advertising automation technology system
  • Experience in implementing marketing automation elements such as segments, audiences, and decision-splits
  • Basic understanding of marketing automation concepts and design principles – proven track record to understand how structured data can be translated into marketing segments and other automations that provide personalized experiences/communications to customers
  • Understanding of core technologies for web content development- HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Extensive experience in working with key data interchange formats including JSON and XML, demonstrating a strong ability to integrate, manipulate, and manage complex data structures across diverse systems and applications
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams in sophisticated environments
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills to bridge the gap between business strategy and technical teams. Hands on experience with JIRA/Confluence expected

Preferred Skills:

  • Front-end development skills specific to marketing automation. Proficiency in templating languages such as Liquid, Jinja, Handlebars or similar language
  • Knowledge of working with key data interchange formats including JSON and XML, demonstrating a strong ability to integrate, manipulate, and manage complex data structures across diverse systems and applications

Salary Range

The expected salary range for this role is $75,700.00 - $94,620.00 per year
