Help Customers Bloom!

Do you light up when you talk turf, fertilizer, or garden color? Join Spikes and Houles as a Lawn & Garden Associate and turn your passion for the outdoors into an outstanding guest experience. You’ll blend deep (or growing!) product knowledge with warm customer service, helping homeowners and local landscapers find exactly what they need to make their landscapes thrive. You'll also cross train with warehouse operations and be trained on forklift operation. Candidates must be 18+ years of age.

What You’ll Do
  • Create an inviting retail experience – keep aisles clear, endcaps seasonal, and guests greeted within moments of entry.
  • Guide & educate customers – listen to their lawn or garden goals, recommend the right soil, seed, fertilizer, pesticide, or décor, and suggest add‑ons that set them up for success.
  • Drive sales inside and outside the store – assist walk‑in guests, process phone orders, and cultivate relationships with landscape pros to grow our customer base.
  • Own the transaction – ring up sales, schedule deliveries, track special orders and inventory in Eagle POS.
  • Merchandise for the season – set accurate signage, pricing, and promotional displays so shoppers can navigate with ease.
  • Keep safety first – maintain a tidy yard and sales floor, follow material‑handling guidelines, and help teammates lift or load up to 50 lbs.
  • Continue learning – complete ongoing product training and share new knowledge with fellow associates.

What You’ll Bring
  • Friendly, upbeat attitude and genuine desire to help people succeed with their lawn & garden projects.
  • 1+ year of retail, sales, or comparable customer‑facing experience (garden‑center knowledge a plus, but we’ll teach the specifics).
  • Familiarity with—or curiosity to learn about—pesticides, fertilizers, soils, turf care, and seasonal plant needs.
  • Proven upselling skills and motivation to hit team sales goals.
  • Comfort with POS systems and willingness to master new tech quickly.
  • Reliable availability for the posted schedule, including rotating weekends.
  • Ability to stand 8–10 hours, bend/stoop, and safely lift 50 lbs.

Why Spikes and Houles?
  • Family‑owned, community‑minded company that treats customers—and employees—like neighbors.
  • Cross‑training in warehouse operations and other departments to broaden your skillset.
  • Employee discount on the products you love.
  • Supportive team culture with ongoing coaching and professional development.
