Daily inspections and maintenance of equipment will be part of your routine to guarantee optimal performance and safety in the workplace. In this role, you will oversee the unloading of inbound shipments and the proper storage of products in designated areas. You will also be tasked with preparing products for shipment, ensuring accuracy in the number and type of items loaded. Your responsibilities will include moving products from staging areas into rail cars, trailers, or containers, and maintaining accurate records to support inventory control and security. You will also assist in physical inventories and ensure proper stock rotation, addressing any discrepancies or special requests from customers. As a leader, you will supervise the training and development of Material Handlers and temporary personnel, providing guidance and support to ensure that all team members are equipped to perform their duties effectively. You will work independently while adhering to company policies and objectives, and you will be expected to maintain a clean and orderly work area. This position requires strong communication skills, as you will coordinate with various departments and ensure that all safety policies and procedures are followed. The Warehouse Lead position is essential for maintaining the high standards of service that Suddath is known for, and you will be a key player in fostering a culture of teamwork and excellence within the warehouse environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner following prescribed work methods and OSHA standards including daily inspection and maintenance.
- Load, unload, move, stack and stage product and materials using a forklift, reach truck, or motorized pallet rider.
- Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to storage locations.
- Efficiently stack and store the merchandise in the appropriate areas.
- Pull and prepare product for shipment, ensuring that the exact number and type of product is loaded and shipped.
- Efficiently move product from staging and/or storage areas into rail cars, trailers or containers.
- Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage.
- Pick and pack (order picking and/or assembly of products in less than full case lots), light assembly, and record storage.
- Perform labeling, sorting, wrapping, packing, and repacking as needed.
- Keep appropriate records and reports to guarantee that tight inventory control and security are maintained.
- Assist in physical inventories and ensure proper stock rotation.
- Ensure customers' special requests are carried out and all problems and/or discrepancies are investigated.
- Coordinate as necessary with all other departments/functions.
- Maintain a clean neat and orderly work area.
Requirements
- High school or G.E.D. degree; or minimum two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to learn and effectively use software applications such as move management, timekeeping, HRIS and other software systems used in the performance of job duties.
