Job Specifics: 

Summary of Role: 

Assistant Store Managers at Dollar General help to maintain a neat and customer-centric store. Under the Store Manager's directive and delegation, the Assistant Store Manager helps supervise store employees, manage merchandise presentation, complete paperwork, and prepare deposits. The Assistant Store Manager is also responsible for stocking and cashiering activities and performs other duties as required to augment profitability and customer satisfaction while ensuring the protection of company assets and curtailing losses.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:

- Offer exceptional customer service leadership; greet and assist customers, and operate the cash register and scanner to complete the customer’s purchase.
- Assist Store Manager in scheduling employees, providing adequate training, orchestrating safety meetings, and ensuring employee adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Follow company procedures to manage merchandise, which includes receiving, unpacking, stocking, restocking, and rotating merchandise on shelves and building attractive merchandise displays.
- Aid in maintaining accurate inventory levels by overseeing damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining planograms; ensure merchandise is displayed according to established practices and Store Manager's guidance.
- Assist in ensuring the store's financial integrity through stringent cashier accountability, key control, adherence to company security practices, and cash control procedures.

Prerequisites:

Knowledge Base and Skills:

- Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Problem-solving ability and able to handle a variety of situations.
- Organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret technical documents like diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Basic mathematical skills for performing calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
- Proficiency in performing cash register functions and report generation.
- Comprehensive understanding of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.

Work Background and/or Education:

- High school diploma or its equivalent is strongly preferred.
- Retail experience of one year and supervisory experience of six months would be an advantage

Working Conditions:

- Regular walking and standing.
- Regular bending, stooping, and kneeling for managing checkout station, stocking merchandise, and unloading trucks; may also need to push and/or pull rolltainers for stocking merchandise.
- Regular handling of merchandise and equipment such as handheld scanners, pricing guns, box cutters, merchandise containers, two-wheel dollies, U-boats (six-wheel carts), and rolltainers.
- Regular and proper lifting of up to 40 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds.
- Occasional climbing (using step ladder) up to heights of six feet.
- Fast-paced environment with a moderate noise level.
- Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions
- Occasionally or regularly driving/providing own transport to make bank deposits, attend management meetings, and commute to other Dollar General stores.
