The Homestead is a destination resort located on the shore of Lake Michigan within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The person who joins us will be responsible for planning, organizing, managing the exterior of buildings, grounds and gardens, recreational facilities including skiing, and parts or our water and wastewater systems in a way that is supportive of other departments, meets brand standards, and is operationally efficient.

Essential Responsibilities

· Recruits, hires, trains, manages, coaches, and motivates the buildings and grounds team to properly maintain the resort's assets with costs at or below its budget.

· Schedules working hours for all buildings and grounds team members and assigns tasks to each team member for every working day.

· Reports on labor hours and purchases on time on a weekly basis.

· Purchases, stores, and secures buildings and grounds maintenance supplies.

· Purchases, maintains, and repairs grounds maintenance and construction tools and equipment.

· Organizes and maintains the department's parking lot, storage spaces, shop, offices, and employee housing to be safe, healthy, and attractive workspaces in compliance with state and federal laws just as Fast Cap does - see fast cap factory tour - Google search.

· Maintains the department's vehicles and equipment to make them fully operational, safe, and long-lasting.

· Prepares or helps to prepare the department's annual budgets for operations and capital expenditures.

Required Qualifications

· High school diploma

· At least five years of work experience

· Three or more years of grounds or property management experience

· Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

· Positive, can-do attitude

· Highest level of integrity

· Strong communication & interpersonal skills

· Valid Michigan driver's license

· Able to pass a background check and substance abuse test

· Positive references from previous employers

Working Conditions:

·  Many tasks are performed outdoors in all seasons and all weather. Outdoor working conditions include temperatures from below 0°F to over 80° F, full sun, high winds, rain, high humidity, snow, freezing rain, and sleet.

· Some tasks are performed indoors. Indoor working conditions sometimes include dust, dirt, loud noise, and chemical process fumes.

· Outdoor and indoor work requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching and operating equipment for extended periods of time. Typically, 60% - 90% of the workday is standing on feet.

· Some work requires lifting up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 50 pounds frequently, and more than 100 pounds occasionally. Typically, this work involves loading, unloading, and moving groundskeeping supplies, construction materials, medium to heavy weight tools, and equipment.

· Some work requires wearing Personal Protective Equipment which the Manager must have the ability to wear.

· Some work involves the operation of equipment which the Manager must be able to operate or be able to be trained to operate.

· Schedule will include some weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications & Special Skills

· College or university enrollment in business, turf management, property management, hospitality management or a related field

· Experience at a ski area or with ski area operations

· MI pesticide applicator license

· Experience with grounds or property management software

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
