Position Overview

Join us in the summer of 2026 and help us continue the legacy of fostering creativity, nurturing talent, and celebrating the individual artistic journey at Interlochen. We are seeking driven and resilient Cabin Counselors who embody our core values and are committed to nurturing young artists. As a Cabin Counselor, you will serve as the primary caregiver for students in your cabin, create exciting programs, and guide your charges through the adventure of living in a rustic cabin in the woods. You are responsible for student safety, developing a community in your cabin, helping students learn through experience and trial and error. You serve as a role model in attitude, behavior, and actions.

What You Get To Do

  • Supervise and care for a group of campers, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the camp session.
  • Create a positive and inclusive cabin environment that fosters a sense of belonging, encourages teamwork, communication, and personal growth.
  • Plan and facilitate age-appropriate, engaging activities and games for campers within the cabin group.
  • Share a living environment with campers ranging in age from 8-18 years old.
  • Assist with facility preparations and maintain a clean cabin throughout the summer.
  • Perform your duties both inside and outside, rain or shine.
  • Work cooperatively with your peers and divisional leadership.
  • Manage self-care and maintain personal physical and emotional stamina, so you can take care of others (adequate sleep, activity, nutrition, mental acuity, managing emotions).
  • Maintain physical and emotional stamina.
  • Commit to inclusion and acceptance of others.
  • Possess the ability to think on your feet and manage emergent situations should they arise.

What You Get

  • Compensation: $2,500
  • Meals and on-campus lodging
  • $400 additional stipend for certified lifeguards (certification course provided at no cost prior to camp, we will train).
  • 10% tuition discount for Discovery Camp or 50% Interlochen Arts Camp for dependents
  • 20% discount for tickets to most summer concerts.
  • 15% discount on merchandise from Scholarshop and food/beverages from Melody Freeze


What You Need

  • Availability 6/15/2026 - 8/9/2026
  • Prepared to live in a nature cabin setting. While we offer accessible housing accommodations, please note that due to the rustic nature of our camp, these options are limited.
  • Able to work in an outdoor environment for extended periods, in all weather conditions.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age; in most cases, one year of independent living following high school graduation is required for Camp Life staff positions.
  • Comfortable living in shared housing with campers ranging in age from 8 to 18.
  • Able to effectively engage in appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication with students and fellow staff.
  • Willing to assist with facility setup and maintain a clean and organized cabin throughout the summer.
  • Capable of performing duties both indoors and outdoors, regardless of weather.
  • Able to work cooperatively and respectfully with peers and divisional leadership.
  • Skilled in self-care practices (adequate sleep, nutrition, activity, emotional regulation) to ensure the ability to care for others.
  • Possess both physical and emotional stamina — this role is rewarding but also demanding.
  • Committed to fostering an inclusive and accepting environment for all individuals.
  • Able to think quickly and respond effectively to unexpected or emergent situations.

  • Rustic Living: You'll be living in a nature cabin setting, surrounded by the beauty of northern Michigan. Wi-Fi and air conditioning are not provided in the nature cabins, encouraging a true disconnect from the digital world and a deeper connection with nature and those around you.
