Payroll Accounting Specialist Job Duties:

  • Maintains payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data
  • Updates payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job title and department/division transfers
  • Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages
  • Determines payroll liabilities by calculating employee federal and state income and social security taxes and employer's social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments
  • Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
  • Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests
  • Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential
  • Maintain term associates withholding for return of assets
  • Maintains spreadsheet to support month-end close
  • Reconciles all prepaid accounts
  • Reconciles all payroll related accounts
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Payroll Accounting Specialist Skills and Qualifications:

Analyzing Information, Data Entry Skills, Attention to Detail, Confidentiality, Thoroughness, General Math Skills, Financial Software, Reporting Skills, Verbal Communication, Organization.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience administering payroll with preference to those with background processing in Paylocity, ADP, or UKG
  • High level of technical acumen to navigate a suite of software related to completing daily tasks including Payroll system, HRIS and Timekeeping system
  • Expertise in multi-function, multi-discipline organization with payroll compliance requirements for a remote workforce
  • Expertise in payroll administration, garnishments, benefits distribution, and related processes and compliance tasks
  • Expertise in payroll recordkeeping requirements and data privacy/protection
  • Highly attentive to details and able to recognize and correct discrepancies and errors
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with a diverse, distributed workforce and multiple stakeholders from various functions at all levels of the organization
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and complete routine tasks as well as large, complex projects in a timely manner
