Engineering Aide ID-23056
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the immediate supervision of the Survey Party Chief in the Survey Bureau of the Engineering Division. Assists Survey Party Chief in surveying land. Holds level or stadia rod at designated points, measures distances between survey points, and uses tape or surveyor's chain. Places stakes at designated points and drives them into ground at specified elevation. Cuts and clears brush and trees from line of survey and measures diameter of sewer pipes. Performs routine check of vehicles such as checking fluid levels and tire pressure, fueling and cleaning, and keeps truck loaded with needed materials and equipment. Travels to various worksites throughout the city by driving city vehicle.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned from time to time.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires the ability to use various hand tools and devices such as, level and stadia rods, steel measuring tape, surveyor's chain, hammer, hatchet, ax, bush blade, and chain saw. Requires traversing long distances sometimes over uneven land, across ditches, river swamp land, and wooded areas. Requires ability to crawl into manholes. Requires ability to operate automobile.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions and dust. May be exposed to traffic, insects, weeds, and poisonous plants. Requires frequent travel to various worksites throughout the city.
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school and six (6) months experience in surveying preferred; or any combination of training and experience which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee Driver's License as a condition of continued employment.
