ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Installs, connects, and disconnects water meters for utility customers; Posts final notice and turns off service.
  • Maintains and repairs water meter infrastructure; Locates and repairs to valves, connections, wires, and curb boxes.
  • Assist in the installation and programming of Automated Meter Infrastructure.
  • Investigates complaints of high-water bills; rereads meters; checks meter and other connections; reports defects in service lines or meters.
  • Completes work orders and applies fees to customer accounts.
  • Uses a variety of hand tools and equipment; cleans and maintains tools and equipment; operates a pickup truck.
  • Attends safety meetings; follows proper safety procedures.
  • Performs related work as required.

 

Minimum Training and Experience

Required Education and Experience


  • High school diploma (or GED equivalent)
-AND-
  • One year of experience in installing water or electric meters or other work related to general construction trades
-OR-
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities
Required Licenses or Certifications
  • Ability to obtain MIOSHA Confined Space Certification
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license.
