Salary: The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $71,100 - $151,128/per year. The anticipated hiring range is $86,000 to $90,000/per year. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Linguistics, Computer Science, or a related field. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2025.
- Training in both linguistics and computer science
- Demonstrated potential or excellence in teaching at the college level
- Demonstrated potential for research, scholarly and creative activities
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including Black/African American, Latine/x, Native American/Indigenous, low-income, first-generation, and minoritized students
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with or interest in NLP research on understudied or marginalized languages or dialects
- Experience with experimental methods
- Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body
- Experience mentoring or supporting students with minoritized identities or experience using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom
Duties:
- Teach courses in computational linguistics, corpus linguistics and other linguistics subfields [Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.]
- Develop new courses in computational linguistics
- Contribute to the creation of curricula for a new bachelor of science degree in Applied Data Science with a track in Computational Linguistics, and to the development of a Digital Humanities program in the College of Liberal Arts
- Engage and participate in appropriate departmental, college, university service, and community
- Develop and sustain a research program and produce appropriate-level scholarly work and creative activities focused on computational linguistics and/or other linguistics subfields

The successful applicant will join a growing community of digital scholars in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA). As CSULB's largest college, CLA encompasses 24 departments. Two CLA departments-Linguistics and Philosophy-will hire new faculty with digital expertise in Fall 2025. The dean has made it a strategic priority to ensure these new tenure-track colleagues can connect with each other as well as with faculty from other disciplines who are dedicated to digital scholarly and creative activities.
