About The Role

Being a Shopify Intern

Our hiring process is unique. We match interns to teams we think they’d be successful in and what works best for Shopify. We’re looking for:

  • Data Engineers to architect and manage the expansive data pipelines that fuel everything from product analytics to merchant-facing data products.
  • Product Data Scientists to deeply understand our products, telling their stories and figuring out how to make them 10x better.
  • Interns are expected to work in the office full time, with a hard minimum of being in-office 3 days/week.

Working at Shopify

  • You must be legally entitled to work in the USA for the entire duration of the 2026 internship (January 5th to August 21st, 2026). Shopify does not provide immigration support to intern candidates at this time.
  • Our Data internships are 8 month long, full-time, paid experiences.
  • We welcome soon-to-be graduates, recent graduates, and self taught candidates with an interest in converting to full time employment after the internship term.
  • This is a 2026 Internship program. Future internship program dates will be posted on our website.
  • As a Data Intern you must be able to work from one of our participating offices: Bellevue, or New York.

Please note: if you don’t currently live in Bellevue or New York, you must be willing and able to relocate for in-office experiences to the closest Shopify office to you. If successful in your application to the Data Internships Program, we will match you to a team when you start at Shopify.

Onboarding

  • Interns must be located in their office city by the first day of Onboarding (January 5th) ready to work 9:00am - 5:00pm. You can’t work from outside the USA.

Qualifications

  • You love challenging yourself with projects or hacking just for fun
  • You are a constant learner
  • You have a passion for solving tough problems with code
  • You take ownership of the projects you work on
  • You enjoy research and figuring out how pieces of an entire project work

  • You have a strong commitment to quality

About Shopify

Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. We propel entrepreneurs and enterprises to scale the heights of their potential. Since 2006, we’ve grown to over 8,300 employees and generated over $1 trillion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries.

This is life-defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.

About You

Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, and ambiguity—and a little bit of chaos. Shopifolk thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.

Before you apply, consider if you can:

  • Care deeply about what you do and about making commerce better for everyone
  • Excel by seeking professional and personal hypergrowth
  • Keep up with an unrelenting pace (the week, not the quarter)
  • Be resilient and resourceful in face of ambiguity and thrive on (rather than endure) change
  • Bring critical thought and opinion
  • Use AI tools reflexively as part of your fundamental workflow
  • Embrace differences and disagreement to get shit done and move forward
  • Work digital-first for your daily work
