Must have knowledge of computers and computer network, software including but not limited to current versions of: Microsoft Office, Office Outlook, current Windows, Windows Server, Adobe Acrobat, and hardware including but not limited to: Modems, routers, switches, satellite and DSL connectivity, maintenance of web pages, email accounts and user profiles. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to feel, handle or finger objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must have a valid Alaska driver’s license and undergo a pre-employment drug test.</p> <p> </p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <p>Under the direction of the IT manager, assist in installing, operating and maintaining all Borough government servers, computers, networks, internet connectivity and web page. Assist in the integration of networking and internet connectivity to numerous computers, including installing LAN and wireless components. Assist in troubleshooting and solving technical computer problems with both software and hardware applications.</p> <p> </p> <p>Ability to learn and apply existing computer systems technology, policies, procedures, methods and techniques; keep accurate records on computer systems, compile information and prepare reports. Able to speak and write effectively, work cooperatively and effectively with the IT manager as well as other personnel who are computer users and in need of assistance. The objective of this position is to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities to carry out the duties of the IT director position.</p> <p> </p> <p>Duties and Tasks Performed:</p> <p>·         Helps to assure compliance with operations and security requirements to ensure all data processing equipment is protected against virus infections.</p> <p>·         Assists in the operation and installation of software and computer hardware which includes servers, desktops and workstation computers, printers, servers, networks and PC peripherals.</p> <p>·         Must comply with the Borough credit card policies when using a Borough credit card for purchases.</p> <p>·         Troubleshoots system and equipment errors and malfunctions and connectivity problems and resolves most problems.</p> <p>·         Provides initial computer and associated training including instructions on logging on and accessing network services and email.</p> <p>·         Assists users in changing passwords and in utilizing appropriate software and in the performance of individual workstation backups.</p> <p>·         Assists in troubleshooting and maintaining the stability of communication lines and equipment.</p> <p>·         Assist in installing, configuring and troubleshooting LAN components such as routers, hubs, switches and servers as well as networking components and peripherals for workstation and mobile PCs.</p> <p>·         Assist customers in navigating and accessing databases using various interface methods.</p> <p>·         Track customer hardware and software problems and plan and schedule the installation of new and updated hardware and software applications.</p> <p>·         Maintains documentation and configuration specifications including security/information resources for the use of a stand-alone or networked computer system.</p> <p>·         Research problem trends and resolutions relating to customer support requirements and makes recommendations to the IT manager.</p> <p>·         Provides technical support to users in the identification, design, development and implementation of approved applications.</p> <p>·         Knowledge of PC hardware characteristics and internal workings to be able to determine the specific architecture required to perform computerized functions and develop necessary interfaces for the proper handshake between various types of computer components such as printers, copiers, fax machines, storage devices and external and internal communications as required.</p> <p>·         Upload updates and additions to the Borough webpage as needed.</p> <p>·         Assist in the setup, management and troubleshooting of Public Access Computers.</p> <p>o   Knowledge of Microsoft Steady State software.</p> <p>o   Maintain Managed Public Access Internet connections and hotspots with ease-of-use in mind.</p> <p>o   Procurement and deployment of new and replacement hardware and software.</p> <p>o   Ability to work with vendors to find cost-effective solutions.</p> <p>o   Assist in providing basic troubleshooting and maintenance of FD/PD/Port radios and work with contracting radio technicians to solve problems.</p> <p>o   Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by IT manager.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <a target="_blank" id="jmfe-custom-job_description_pdf" href="" class="jmfe-custom-field et_pb_button">Additional Information</a>
