The Outage Manager/Project Manager will provide leadership and oversight for a generator rewind project within a utility power generation facility. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing all aspects of planned and emergent outages related to the generator rewind, ensuring safety, quality, compliance, and adherence to budget and schedule. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, contractors, and vendors to deliver the project efficiently while minimizing downtime and optimizing plant reliability.


Key Responsibilities

  • Outage Planning and Scheduling: Develop and manage detailed outage plans, including scope definition, timelines, critical path schedules, and resource allocation (labor, tooling, materials) for the generator rewind project. Utilize tools like Primavera or SAP for scheduling and tracking.
  • Project Execution: Oversee onsite execution of the generator rewind, ensuring compliance with safety standards (OSHA, EHS), quality control processes (QCP), and Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) protocols. Manage technical field advisors (TFAs), craft labor, and contractors.
  • Cost and Budget Management: Prepare and monitor project budgets, track costs, and ensure cost-effective resource utilization. Develop cost estimates and negotiate vendor contracts to minimize expenses.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with plant operations, reliability engineers, and external stakeholders (e.g., vendors, customers, regulatory bodies) to align outage activities with operational goals. Conduct pre- and post-outage meetings to ensure clear communication.
  • Risk Management: Perform preliminary safety and risk analyses (e.g., Failure Mode & Effect Analysis - FMEA) to identify potential issues and implement mitigation strategies. Respond promptly to emergent issues to restore operations.
  • Compliance and Documentation: Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, including utility-specific requirements (e.g., ISO/CAISO outage reporting). Maintain accurate documentation, including outage reports, quality procedures, and project deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field), Construction Management, or equivalent experience. A high school diploma with 8+ years of relevant experience may substitute.


Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in power generation, outage management, or project management, with at least 2 years in generator maintenance, rewind, or repair processes.
  • Experience with hydro, fossil, or nuclear generation facilities is preferred.
  • Proven track record in managing complex outages, including planned, emergent, or upgrade projects.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong project management skills, including proficiency with scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera, MS Project) and CMMS (e.g., SAP, Oracle Field Services).
  • Knowledge of generator systems, maintenance practices, and industry standards
