The Thermal Acoustical Solutions segment offers a full line of innovative engineered products to assist in noise and heat abatement within the automotive and industrial markets. The business manufactures acoustical damping and thermal insulating solutions comprised of fiber and metal based composite product constructions. These products are typically found in the interior (dash insulators), underbody (wheel well, fuel tank, exhaust) and under hood (engine compartment) of passenger vehicles, heavy duty trucks, recreational vehicles as well as in other industrial applications. The segment employs approximately ~1400 employees with operations in the U.S., Germany, France and China.

Job Summary:

The Production Manager provides leadership for manufacturing operations shift. This role is responsible for the safety of employees, plant housekeeping and 6S, meeting daily production requirements, on-time shipping of high quality parts that meet customer expectations, achieve monthly financial budget at the Contribution Margin level, while continuously improving manufacturing operations. Directly supervises multiple salaried Supervisors, and hourly Production Associates, and Machine Setup Techs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts daily/weekly shift communication meetings to review line performance (safety, productivity, scrap, customer concerns, 6S).
  • Discuss and initiate countermeasures for off-target performance. Follow-up on associates needs and concerns.
  • Coordinates and leads Continuous Improvement activities to improve KPI’s and metrics.
  • Develops and trains direct reports.
  • Drives responsibility for creating a Lean Manufacturing culture that promotes continuous improvement.
  • Ensures daily line staffing is sufficient to meet production and delivery requirements. Request the Plant Manager’s approval if overtime is needed in order to meet customer requirements.
  • Ensures compliance to all rules, regulations, and policies. Immediately documents, communicates and corrects violations or unsafe conditions. Treats all direct reports equally with respect and compassion while adhering to company policy.
  • Ensures compliance to company policy with documented progressive disciplinary action for attendance issues. Approves employee vacation requests per company policy while ensuring adequate line staffing.
  • Ensures compliance to Visual Management controls. (Hour-by-Hour performance tracking, KANBAN pull systems, Line OEE and scrap trends and improvement actions, Downtime Tracking and improvement actions, 6S audits trend and improvement actions.
  • Ensures employee compliance to part and process operating standards and standard work requirements. Immediately corrects non-conformance to procedure and issues identified in Layered Process Audits.
  • Ensures labor hours and goals are being met. Approves direct report time and attendance.
  • Functional knowledge of Shop Floor and Order Management systems, both ERP (D365) and Visual Management.
  • Manages and deliver budget and KPI’s, manpower hours, expense, capital, safety, quality and delivery.
  • Monitors hourly performance for each production line. Coordinates assistance from Process Engineer, Quality Engineer, Maintenance or other support function as needed to immediately correct off-target line performance.
  • Provides weekly performance reports and productivity report out as needed to senior management.
  • Reviews schedules and order requirements for each production line; communicates with exiting and incoming production managers on schedule/order status and known priorities. Immediately notifies Planner and Plant Manager of unplanned downtime, excessive scrap or risk of not meeting schedule/order requirements.
  • Work extended hours when required, including weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required for Consideration as a Candidate:

  • High school diploma or GED Equivalent
  • 5-years manufacturing experience
  • 1-year automotive manufacturing experience
  • Ability to conduct independent root cause analysis /5 Whys
  • Ability to develop independent Lean concepts, building own Continuous Improvement action plans
  • Ability to hold employees accountable for their performance in a fair, consistent, and respectful manner
  • Ability to interpret data and clearly present conclusions and identify required improvement actions
  • Ability to maximize manpower and utilization in fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Ability to utilize creativity and innovative thinking to implement solutions to problems
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as required.
  • Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing results in assigned tasks and continuous improvement projects
  • Experience as a direct contact to customer
  • Experience as a supervisor/manager running a Tier 1 Automotive operation to budgets
  • Experience motivating and developing employees through reward, recognition and assignment of challenge and stretch opportunities
  • Experience serving as a cross-functional partner with Engineering, Maintenance, Scheduling and Quality
  • Experience with developing budgets and managing to the budget • Experience with production scheduling
  • Possess above-average interpersonal, communication, and organization skills
  • Possess personal ownership and accountability for safety and production performance
  • Possess strong computer proficiency (Microsoft Outlook, TEAMs, Excel & Word) • Possess strong drive for results though self-directed and self-motivated drive to achieve manufacturing excellence in assigned area

  • Working knowledgeable of OSHA regulations/requirements, ISO/TS 16949, ISO9001

Additional Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Preferred candidate to poses AS or BS level degree
  • Preferred 5+ years management experience in automotive manufacturing environment
  • Preferred Experience using ERP (Oracle or D365),
  • Preferred Experience using HRIS systems / Timekeeping System (Workday)
  • Lean Manufacturing experience
  • Customer Focus

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
