Position Summary: The R&D Project Manager plays a key role in bringing Thorne’s new product ideas to life, from the first spark of inspiration to the moment they reach our customers. You will guide multiple innovation and renovation projects through our Stage Gate process, ensuring each one is delivered on time, on budget, and with excellence. In this role, you will collaborate closely with passionate teams across Thorne, including Brand, Finance, Medical, Scientific, Clinical & Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain, all working together to make a lasting impact on health and well-being.

This is a remote position.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure R&D projects are delivered on time, meet quality and performance standards, and stay within budget by following best-in-class DTC/CPG Stage Gate processes and R&D Project Management Organization practices.
  • Coordinate cross-functional meetings for product launches or extensions to track progress, resolve issues, and align stakeholders.
  • Develop, manage, and communicate detailed project timelines and key milestones, ensuring alignment with cross-functional teams.
  • Track and document project successes, failures, and lessons learned across projects to continuously improve the project management function.
  • Ensure rigor, consistency, and compliance in established systems to drive timely, high-quality data and reporting in and across projects.
  • Act as the gatekeeper for a "single source of truth" for all project documentation, ensuring consistent updates, accuracy, and clarity.
  • Prepare reports summarizing project progress, challenges, and solutions for internal stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify project risks and develop contingency plans to mitigate potential issues impacting timelines, budgets, or quality standards.
  • Build trusting relationships with the team and stakeholders to encourage transparency and collaboration.
  • Champion of facilitating NPD execution from Idea to Launch using best-in-class Stage Gate and Pipeline management processes and ways of working.

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Chemistry, Nutrition Science or related field with functional experiences in Supply Chain, Life Science or R&D.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Project Management Organization experience in the dietary supplement, functional nutrition, or high-value CPG industries, with experience in DTC/CPG channels, is preferred.
  • Experience operating in an FDA-regulated environment and/or in a manufacturing facility with a GCP/cGMP environment preferred.
  • PMP certification is a plus.
  • Proven experience managing complex projects from initiation through market launch.
  • Familiarity with Stage Gate processes and tools for New Product Development and line extensions.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and teams simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance and familiarity with industry-specific standards.
  • Adaptability in a rapidly changing and high-growth environment.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, actively seeking ways to optimize project management processes.
